The Witcher Could Have Ended After Henry Cavill Left, Here's Why It Didn't

By admin Dec 26, 2024

While Henry Cavill’s departure from Netflix’s The Witcher series after Season 3 has been known for quite some time, Total Film magazine has information on how close the show came to ending as a result.

Last year, Cavill issued a statement announcing that his medallion and swords will be taken up by The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth. (The announcement came around the time Cavill, in quick succession, announced he would be returning to the role of Superman–before he shared that he will, in fact, not.)

“We had the choice to have Geralt exit and to end the show,” said The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. “[But] that’s not something that we were willing to do. There’s just too many stories left to tell… If we replaced Geralt with another Witcher, we would be going fully away from the books, and I don’t think that’s what anyone wanted either.” Hissrich added, “It was time for him in his life to move on… We’ve all been processing this in our own way.”

Season 3 will see the White Wolf, Geralt of Rivia, reluctantly teaming up with Yennefer to safeguard Ciri from the perils lurking throughout the Continent. Hissrich added that the central theme of family in the series will be even more on display in the coming episodes. She explained, “This is the point where our characters finally have an opportunity to unite and envision a future together. And so I was really excited to finally deliver that promise to the audience… to get to that place where there could be some happiness. But it’s The Witcher… so of course that doesn’t last!”Come from Sports betting site VPbet

The Witcher Season 3, Part 1 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 29, followed by Part 2 on July 27. Despite Henry Cavill’s departure, the show will carry on, with Season 4 expected to arrive at in 2024 at the earliest.
